It depends on which part has failed, the age of the system and the refrigerant it uses. Faults like capacitors, sensors, fan motors and blocked drains are usually well worth repairing. If a repair doesn’t make sense, your technician will tell you and explain the options.
Check the mode and temperature settings, clean the filters, make sure the outdoor unit isn’t blocked and check the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped. If that doesn’t fix it, turn the system off and book a repair, especially if you notice ice on the pipes, a burning smell, a breaker that keeps tripping, or grinding or buzzing noises.
